Hello F!x

The word "kindness" is a noun that means the state of being kind to others. The reason why it is "noun" is for its suffix (NESS) attached at the end of the RRRRrrrrrroot word "kind". After attaching it, the word becomes (NOUN) as in (kindNESS)

Actually, the professor's material lecture says roots are always free. This can be found in lecture 3 in the characteristics of the root words. Nonetheless, My personal opinion is that I think roots are always free because they are meaningful by their own on.

When adding an affixation, whether Inflectional or Derivation, the base form can still be understood unlike the affixes.

Excuse me, can you check my answer .i want make sure if my answer is correct , i know 100% when derive one word to another its change its class for example from verb to noun but am not sure its change tense for example, from past to present . i hope it clear !.

When we derive ** when Derivational Affix, in other words, is added, we change (the class, from verb to a noun)

However, when we inflect a word **Inflectional Affix in other words, we change (the tense, from past to present for an instance.)
