What do some shortenings stand for
For Example: CNN stands for: Cable News Network GPA stands for: Grand Point Average Modem stands for: Modulator/Demodulator GPS stands for: Global Positioning System 3G or 4G stands for: Third or Fourth Generation OS stands for: Operating System If you want to know the meaning of any abbreviation just go to google and write it down and after it write "stands for" and you'll get the meaning you can also go to http://www.abbreviations.com/ and search for any abbreviation you want and you may write here any abbreviation that you find it interesting to know its meaning نتكلم هنا عن الاختصارات باللغة الإنجليزية بالأمثلة التي ذكرتها في الأعلى بإمكانك معرفة معنى أي اختصار بكتابته في قوقل وكتابة "stands for" بعدها وبإمكانك أيضا زيارة الموقع http://www.abbreviations.com/ ولو كان لديك أي اختصار تريد مشاركتنا معناه فتفضل به وإن كان لديك اختصار تريد معرفة معناه يمكنك وضعه هنا وسنجيب عليه إن شاء الله أتمنى للجميع الفائدة :icon1: |

.. Abbreviations are very useful to shorten time specially for long technical terms. Or some of the international organizations .. Some of the most common abbreviatios are a person's initial and (a.m.(before noon (p.m. (after noon' Add to that our daily text messages that full of funny abbreviations Btw Remember the hustle that some Arabs made about the BRB :biggrin: Thx for the informations And i know I've talked a lot :icon1: |

... You gonna regret for saying that :biggrin: Thx any way A.m and p.m are taken from latin language A.m stands for (Ante merideim.) & P.m stands for (Post meriediem) If you dont mind i have a question Do you know about full stop in abbreviation is it necessary ..And what about capitalization |

Hi Mr.Ridwan you now i've miss this section very much it's nice to be back in here .. and it's a good Subject I would like to share with you and the audience some abbreviations such as : S.O.S = SOS is the international Morse code distress signal and it's mean "Save Our Ship" or "Save Our Souls" or "Send Out Succour" which mean help in a desperate way .. .. ok now i want to eat some chocolate :agolakser: so allow me to go and i will be back with some abbreviations againe .. oh and if any one want some it's a pleasure to share it with you :060: .. take care guys :rose::rose: |

I would be happy if I read an article from your words Your short question has a quite long answer but in general You don't have to use full stops or periods, especially if it's of the type that you can pronounce as a word like: NATO or LASER In this case it's better not to put periods, but you can put also And if it can be read only as separate letters then you have the option to put or not In general the case of putting periods is decreasing Regarding Capitalization, it should be always written in caps, especially if it's formed out of initial words' letters (initialism), like: USA In some cases you can use a mixture of the two types but it's not so common, like if you have an abbreviation and you want to add a word to it as an abbreviation also, like if you want to abbreviate Messenger RNA (Ribonucleic Acid), we write it mRNA This is the answer in brief :smile: |
