this time we are going to differenciate between the different pronunciation of the letter"G

we have the soft G which is pronunced like J
and the hard G
هناك اختلاف في نطق حرف G وهو يعتمد على مايليه من حروف

the different pronunciation depends also on the following letter to it

"If the following letter is ‘E’, ‘I’ or ‘Y’, the pronunciation is said to be “soft”.

لو كان يليه احد الحروف E I Y ينطق حرف الG مثل نطق حرف الجيم في اللغة العربية

A soft ‘G’ is pronounced ‘j’ as in general, giant, gymnastic

اما لو كان يليه غيرها من الحروف فينطق الحرف بالطريقة المعتاده كما في الامثلة التاية

A hard ‘G’ is pronounced ‘g’ as in golf, pig, running, great,

There are a few interesting words that include both hard and soft sounds. Some examples include
هناك كلمات يجتمع فيها حرف Gبكلا الحالتين مثل
garage
gauge, geography,

it can now be seen why ‘sag/rag’ and ‘sage/rage’ are spelt and pronounced the way they are

Exceptions

Nothing is easy - so there are some exceptions to these rules. These mostly involve giving ‘hard’ pronunciation to words where the rule indicates the ‘soft’ sound. These exceptions include:

هناك حالات استثنائية ينطق فيها حرف G بالطريقة المعروفه على الرغم من ان مايليه هو احد الحروف الثلاثه السابقه

gear, get, gelding, give girl gift tiger,

Present participles of some verbs that end with ‘g’, such as ‘banging’ and ‘ringing’

Other exceptions are foreign words that have been adopted into the English language, such as: gestalt and geisha
