I started today with Reading Stratigies and I made short summray for part of the lecture, I just made it shorter I mean I didn't add a lot of things because I can't write fast with the Dr.
InshaAllah I will try my best to write small notes from his lecture in future 3 Ways to Get the Meaning From Context: 1- Punctuation: • Some of Punctuation Marks: . = period or full stop , = comma ; = semi-colon : = colon -= hyphen _ = dash ( ) = round brackets • Uses of Punctuation Marks: I think it's good to take a look at the using for punctuation marks, and i don't know if we will study it later , but it's good to know a brief about it. see this link: http://www.englishclub.com/writing/punctuation.htm • Example: Tony Blair (the former British prime minister) resigned from office in 2007. 2- A clue in another sentence: (surrounding words) • Example: A school system in one country is not identical to the system in any other country. It cannot be exactly the same because each culture is different. The second sentence have the same meaning of the first sentence. 3- Logic: • Example: Public schools are all both free all students and egalitarian; all students are considered equal and learn the same the same material. Here, egalitarian means equal. |

Thanks Zaworaq :) I listened to the first lecture of Grammatical Structure hmm there isn't a lot about it I made a summary for it and I think the point about third person is interesting so i explained it 1st Lecture: Present Simple uses: For things happen everyday like: habits, like My friend goes to university everyday routines, e.g. Mona surfs the web everyday and general facts e.g. water freezes at 0 degree present progressive uses: things that happen NOW. e.g. I write this summary now. Present Simple Form: * He, She, It + Verb with S e.g. She draws everyday. * They, We, You, I + Verb infinitive e.g. They go to work everyday. What Is First, Second, and Third Person? First Person: uses I as the narrator. E.g. I like books. Second Person: uses YOU a lot. E.g. You like books Third Person: Use He, she, it. E.g. She likes books. Here is more about this: http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-...ird-person.htm Spelling Rules When Adding 'S' To Verb: Rule 1: Add es after verbs ending in –ch. –sh, -ss, and –x e.g. teaches, pushes, passes, fixes. Rule 2: When verb ends with consonant + Y = Ies. e.g. fly = flies. Try = Tries. Rule 3: Do becomes does Go becomes goes Have becomes has. Negatives in Simple Present: They/ you/ we/ I + don't +verb. e.g I don't work. He/ she/ it + doesn't + verb without 'S' e.g. she doesn't work. Questions in Simple Present: Do + I/ you/ we/ they + verb + ? e.g. Do you work? Does he/ she/ it + verb (without 'S') + ? e.g. Does she work? |

I noticed that in some lectures of Reading Strategies, Composition I, and Grammar Structure that they talked about simple present and simple past

The simple Present: Form: Positive Form: - She/ He/ It + verb. S - They/ We/ You/ I + verb. Infinitive (without 's') Example: She speaks English. You speak English. Negative Form: - She/ He/ It +Does not + Verb. Infinitive (without 's') - They/ We/ You/ I + Do not + Verb. Infinitive (without 's') Example: She does not play tennis. You do not speak English. Question Form: - Does + She/ He/ It + Verb. Infinitive (without 's') +? - Do + They/ We/ You/ I + Verb. Infinitive (without's') Example: Does he play tennis? Do you speak English? USES: 1- Repeated Actions: Use the Simple Present to express the idea that an action is repeated or usual. The action can be a habit, a hobby, a daily event, a scheduled event or something that often happens. It can also be something a person often forgets or usually does not do. Example: She always forgets her purse. Does the Sun circle the Earth? She does not play tennis. 2- Facts or Generalizations: The Simple Present can also indicate the speaker believes that a fact was true before, is true now, and will be true in the future. It is not important if the speaker is correct about the fact. It is also used to make generalizations about people or things. Example: Cats like milk. Do pigs like milk? California is not in the United Kingdom. 3- Scheduled Events in the Near Future Speakers occasionally use Simple Present to talk about scheduled events in the near future. This is most commonly done when talking about public transportation, but it can be used with other scheduled events as well. Example: The train leaves tonight at 6 PM. The bus does not arrive at 11 AM, it arrives at 11 PM. When does class begin tomorrow? |
